CBD is an abbreviation of CannaBiDiol and is a non-psychoactive extract from the cannabis plant. The compound was discovered around 80 years ago but has only recently been legalised for commercial use. So oil drops, coffee, vaping, lotions, tinctures, even sweets and gummies can be purchased to give varying doses of Cannabidiol. Suggested benefits include pain relief, improved cognition, reduction in anxiety levels and increased mobility, although many of these have yet to be fully investigated.

The pronunciation is usually with an "oy-ul" sound at the end as in oil, however, it's actually "iy-ol" from the word diol which is a chemical term that refers to the 2 hydroxyl (or alcohol) groups in its chemical formula that distinguishes it from THC. CBD is obtained from the hemp plant rather than the cannabis plant because the concentrations of the required liquid are more favourable.
